Hi, my name is Joe Constantine and I love being outside. More specifically, I love digging, hammering and chopping. Quite often you will find me out back doing one of these things while the sounds of Ry Cooder or Johnny Cash drift from the shed.
For a couple of years I’ve been pottering around like this out back, slowly growing my interest and competence in garden DIY, or Backyard DIY as I like to call it. I built a couple of wood stores, a bike shed and a compost tumbler, and at that point I decided to record my progress with a blog.
For me, Backyard DIY is all about recycling (or upcycling, as we are fond of saying these days) – reclaiming society’s junk and diverting it from the landfill to create something functional for the backyard. The wood stores were made from pallets, the bike shed used to be a bed, and the compost tumbler is really an industrial cable reel.
So whether it’s pallets or plumbing, bottles or beds, tins or tyres – all can be reused (upcycled!) into something new. So let’s make something!
